Petitgrain is primarily extracted from the leaves and branches of the bitter orange tree. Neroli is obtained from the bitter orange blossoms, and bitter orange essential oil is obtained from the peel. Other citrus leaves and branches, such as oranges, lemons, and tangerines, are sometimes called petitgrain. Petitgrain stands for "small grain". It was originally extracted from the small unripe fruit of the orange, hence the name. Woody and refreshing scent.
